About us

Our founders, Mark & Janelle Bryner opened Bryner Design in 2014. Mark and Janelle met while attending Utah Tech University (Formerly Dixie State University). They were married in 2000, and soon after moved to Logan Utah to attend Utah State University.
Mark joined the Army National Guard, and the ROTC program at Utah State on September 20, 2001 following the terrorist attacks on our nations capitol and the world trade center.

Mark worked multiple jobs during college including framing crews, a survey crew, as a structural drafter doing steel designs for a sign company, and manufacturing treadmills.
In 2006 Mark graduated from Utah State with a degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering
Following graduation Mark and Janelle moved to St. George where Mark worked for Rosenberg Associates. He designed water distribution systems for a small community called Diamond Valley, Site deisgns for commercial & retail sites, and structural engineering of homes. Mark will always be grateful for the mentorship proided by Rick Rosenberg, Mike Robinson, Chris Pettigrew, and others from this fantasatic engineering firm. In 2008 the housing market crashed and this ended some great days with this firm.

Mark provided engineering support of construcion for USACE on this $4B Data Center 2010 – 2013
Mark began work with the US Army Corps of Engineers as a Project Engineer, and later a Structural Engineer in 2009 and conducted construction management engineerng overseeing cnstruction of aircraft hangers, VA hospital buildings, and the 4.3 Billion dollar Data Center Campus shown above.

In 2014 Upon returning from Afghanistan, Mark bought a computer, and some software, and Janelle hired two Utah State University Students, and bought a plotter. Bryner Design officially began with the goal of providing some stability into our lives. By this time Mark and Janelle had 6 of our 8 kids.

Mark Designed the Center Gate for the Hyrum S Chittenden Lock while working for the Inland Navigation Design Center in Rock Island Illinois in 2019. The Gate was installed October 2024
In 2019 Mark and Janelle made Bryner Design into a night and weekend business, and went back to work for USACE as a structural engineer at the Inland Navigation Design Center in Rock Island Illinois. While in Illinois Janelle gae birth to twin girls. Here Mark designed a new center miter gate replacement for the 100 year old Chittenden Lock miter gates in Seattle Washington.

In 2020 Mark and Janelle again made Bryner Design our main effort.
In 2022 the Bryners took an epic vacation across America. We felt inspired to move our family back to the midwest.

Mark accepted a position as a Senior Structural Engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers in Kansas City where he worked on Dams, Floodwalls, and levees, and rehabilition of large concrete structures. Mark decided to accept a deferred resignation offer from USACE as part of the Departent of Government Effeciencies efforts to streamline the federal government.
